Cacophonous Christmas 2011

We paraded through the city yesternight, spearheading and spreading cheer and spilled liquor over a narrow and winding path.

Cacophony Christmas lives!

But not because of you, probably, dumbass. Where The Fuck were you last night? Surely not clinging to your new best friends and drunken neighbors as were the ragtag bunch that briefly occupied Safeway on Market around 8 pm. Songs of merriment and cries of confusion were abounding as upwards of a hundred revelers paraded through the produce aisle and check stands, snake-like bellowing Deck the Halls and wearing the latest Xmas fashions.

Check me, where you there? Were you not entertained? Ah well, just as well. We didn't need you anyway.

The parade returned, like the swallows to the Capistrano-adjacent area, and the merriment resumed.

Some guy wearing a kimono strummed a uke and a lot of nice people peppered with drunks strung along the Lower Haight, then up Market to Castro, where shit really started to get weird: I mean, people actually starting JOINING IN with us. Singing and laughing and everything. It was epic. So we left.

The parade of mayhem continued through a bar on 14th, and a halfway house of recently sober youths (PERFECT place to put a bunch of slobbering drunks, right?). We knew we had reached our Zenith, so we stumbled, apologized and  ---chagrined --  everybody pissed off and planned for how to make NEXT year's CC the REAL last one. Go baby Jesus!

Anna Benassi - Grateful Heart Therapy

Anna Bennasi is a Therapist Intern with Grateful Heart Holistic Therapy Center in San Francisco.

I have met and worked with several therapists over the last thirty years.

That may not do much for my credibility and then again, it may. You decide.

But all I have is my opinions. And in my opinion, Anna is a fine therapist.

She demonstrates all the skills and practices that are needed in therapy. She is highly intelligent without arrogance, a wonderful listener without being passive, and a highly trained -- yet humble -- expert in the field of psychotherapy. She is a caring and compassionate healer.

In the six months since I have met Anna, she has helped me with my wife, my marriage, and my life.

If you are looking for a therapist anywhere near Castro, you would be wise to consider her.

No Gas Day today! March 31, 2011

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=158856697501684

Facebook has done some pretty amazing things. Anything from reuniting lost loves and old friends to creating a revolution in oppressed countries. I want to see if we can organize an event to reach as many people as possible to have a day designated to boycott all gas stations across the planet.

I know this has been tried before, but not since Facebook has become the phenomenon that it has. So, send this event to everyone on your ...friends list, and let's see if we can start our own revolution, by letting these oil companies know we aren't going to stand for these prices!

Simply avoid all gas stations on March 31, 2011. And if you can go one step further, don't even drive that day. Why not let Facebook help us spread the word? However, don't forget your local mom and pop shop. Go IN and buy something that day. Make a point of it!

We're mad as hell, and are tired of watching the big oil companies laugh all the way to the bank while we all suffer. Let's do this!

Side note:
And since there seems to be so much confusion about what we are trying to do here, let me clarify now. This is NOT about thinking we are going to send gas prices plummeting downward because of this one day. This is about taking a stand, together, against greedy people whose commodity happens to affect ALL OTHER commodity's prices. What other commodity does that? Let's be the nation of innovators that we are and come up with something better!

And if you can, people that belong to organized groups, be it churches, bikers, or even a group of your friends, go and rally at one of your local government offices that day. Let your officials know enough is enough!

And while you are at it... Reduce, reuse, and recycle. :)

Thank you, Tim Burton, for my mother. And for Big Fish.

Thank you Tim Burton, for making Big Fish. I am just watching it now for the first time in a few years and it has struck me quite powerfully. I am getting back to the film soon, but I had to pause it and send off a letter to my mother, who I haven't spoken to in years.

It was your boot in my butt that got me to write.

Gratefully,

Oh, here is the letter if you want: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19tStrRaAKQq6JIr-LlzNDDSKOWZ8VP6hSRexq8xFtZ8/edit?hl=en&authkey=CPP--lg

The view from here is great with all the storms rolling through. There are a lot more on my Picasa web page if you want. What I want now is a better camera and a tripod. I think you'll see what I mean.

If I do ever get to a camera upgrade, I can share a new realization: if I just slow down and stare, there is magic in the air. The movement of the clouds is hypnotic and enthralling. The tough thing is down-shifting enough to notice.

The East Wing

The East Wing is empty once again.

You who are about to rock
filled this little room
for a time

with bags of shoes and socks,
dances, stories, sneezes
laughter and smiles,
a hundred thoughts
we will never know,
and the promise of a new day

You filled this little room and then
you took it

You let us show off our city that we love.
And gave us a thousand memories
Good ones
Strong and FUNNY

We will miss having you here to feed and torment in the morning.
It was fun dragging you out of bed,
calling to Carmen to bring the cold water

Take this little room with you.
It is yours.
Sitting full in your heart and your head
It is Bursting with Art, Music, Dance, Poetry, Games, Athletics
Good Energy of every kind

Just like it did for you
and with you
when you were here in it

Now it lives both

full in your heart, and
empty and still
on the 11th floor
of a city that you now know

The East Wing is empty.

Sort of.

Wow. Two whole months with no good news. Sounds like a country I know.

Two guys -- farmer A and farmer B -- a LONG time ago, are leaning over the wall between their two properties talking about crops and stuff and A says,

"You know my boy didn't come home last night. I don't know what he has gotten himself into."

B : "That's too bad!"
A : "Maybe yes, maybe no."

While they are speaking, the young man rides up with several horses. It turns our he found a herd of wild horses and spent the night corralling them.

B : " Wow! That is great!"
A : "Maybe yes, maybe no."

The young man falls from one of the new horses and breaks his arm.

B : "Oh! Sorry! That is terrible!"
A : "Maybe yes, maybe no."

The government comes by to put the son in the army, but they leave him alone because he is injured.

B : "Wow! Great!"
A : "Maybe..."

Wow. Two whole months with no good news. Sounds like a country I know.

Okay, so link is at bottom and that was my take:

Send Carmen Your Extra Money!

http://starttrainingbayarea.kintera.org/carmenwhiting?faf=1&e=4213642019

Send your extra money!

Carmen has not slowed down as usual. She is training now for a charity event raising money and awareness for heart disease with -- well, let HER tell you:

Dear Family and Friends,

I have committed to start the New Year off right, by taking my health and wellness to a new level!

I’ve signed on with the American Heart Association’s Start! Training program, where resources are available; including a coach, a team, training schedules and special clinics – not to mention motivation! In exchange, I have agreed to raise funds towards heart and stroke-related research and education programs.

While completing this event will be a MAJOR challenge for me, I would like to challenge you to “run” with me! I am asking for your financial support towards a worthy cause that most of us can relate, as heart disease runs rampant and at staggering rates within our communities.

No dollar amount is too small and every dollar makes a difference in working to save lives. If your company has a matching gift program, please send to me the matching gift form along with your check and watch your donation grow!

I wish to thank you in advance for your generous and tax-deductible offer; here’s to better health in 2011.

Be well, be safe; fly high,

My sister can inspire the whole world

My sister can inspire the whole world. Just listen to her writing here, unedited, in what I am sure was an off-the-cuff comment regarding hate speech:

"These words are not just simple statements. As many of you know, I have been very politically active here in Toledo, this community is my sphere of influence. Had it not been for the fact that I am a single mom, I would have ran for City Council. I have been involved in Presidential, Mayoral, City Council and several other campaigns. I have pushed my daughter's stroller during our door to door efforts, asking people to vote. I was president of our Latino Democratic Caucus. I love this country with commitment, not emotionally. My home state of Arizona is falling prey to unreasonable, senseless and hateful speech and acts. Recently, a congresswoman was shot along several other people including a nine year old. Giving myself to reflection and deep thought, I identified blind hatred towards my opposition and had to make an honest change in my thinking pattern. I had to confront my own thinking first and align it to my true passion. I believe that we can turn things around, I believe that there are many of us who are willing to stand for what is right. First, and foremost, I challenge each and everyone of you to take a check up from the neck up and obliterate hate from your mental patterns. Wherever you are, wherever you go respond with reason and peace, regardless of the hate directed at you or at the situation. Stand with me in this effort to spread reason and true love for all our brothers and sisters. May they be Democrats or Republicans. I will stand firm till my death. May our good Creator bless us all with the wisdom necessary to turn things right."

Is it just me? Whadaya think? Can she write, or what? I think I know someone who is going to re-enter the political arena sometime soon...

Hayes Valley Farm lives!

Hayes Valley Farm lives!

Happened to walk back from Castro up Laguna instead of my normal trudges up Fillmore or Divis, and found a miracle: Hayes Valley Farm which from my fifteen minutes of scrutiny and research seems to be a freeway off-ramp turned farm less than one mile from my house. The history is doubtless much more complex and interesting. Have a look here or stop by Laguna and Fell and see for yourself.

When I do good, I feel good; when I do bad, I feel bad, and that is my religion.
